Type of plant: Evergreen low to medium woody shrub
Best Varieties: Common variety is officinalis. There are also dwarf varieties called "Nana" and a prostrate variety.
Sowing: Easily grown from cuttings or layering in spring.
Growing Habit: Evergreen low to medium spreading plant to about 3ft high
Growing Conditions: Rosemary grows well in containers and loves hotter drier areas of the garden. No special treatment is necessary provided soil is reasonable, quite friable and free draining. Prine the plant frequently to keep it bushy and compact.
Companions:
Problems: Mealy bug, spider mite and scale. Root rot if soil too moist.
Uses:
- Rosemary is great in the garden to enjoy the aroma as you brush passed it along walkways.
- It's blue flowers attract bees and increase pollination rates.
- It can be trained into topiary easily and is great for pots.
- The leaves are used in cooking and roasting meat and casseroles.
- The leaves can also be dried and used for pot pourri.
