Hardware RSS FeedsFujitsu LifeBook T1010 - With the LifeBook T1010, Fujitsu adds tablet functionality to an otherwise typical 13.3-inch laptop. It's a good choice for students and executives who prefer to take handwritten notes on the run....Feed Source: reviews.cnet.com D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 - wireless router - The D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 is a stable performer with excellent Web interface. But because it comes in a bulky, old-school design, has a relatively short range, and carries a hefty price tag, consider waiting for the price to drop before investing in this router.... Dell Studio S1535-125B - The Dell Studio S1535-125B impresses us with its leading performance in the sub-$1,000 category, thanks in large part to a speedy Intel CPU and generous memory allotment. Striking a fine balance between Dell's XPS and Inspiron lines, we recommend this well-rounded 15-inch laptop for students and home users alike.... HP Pavilion dv2945se - The 14-inch HP Pavilion dv2700t Special Edition looks like a much more expensive laptop, but you can also find a more powerful 14-inch laptop with better battery life for less money.... Apple iMac (20-inch, 2.4GHz) - Apple's smaller-scale iMac remains our favorite all-in-one. And while its looks, its ease of use, and its performance are all selling points, Windows PCs are starting to catch up (at least with the latter). A few components could also stand an update, but in general you'll find the 20-inch iMac a remarkable computer for its price.... HP Compaq CQ50-215NR - Despite its upscale looks, the 15.4-inch Compaq Presario CQ50-215nr is marred by pokey performance and abbreviated battery life.... Dell Studio Hybrid - If you're considering all of the computers in the $700 to $1,000 price range, the Dell Studio Hybrid is not very compelling. However, if you limit yourself to the very specific niche of small PCs, you'll appreciate this system's clever design and its relatively powerful hardware.... Sony Vaio JS190J (black) - By virtue of its price, its desktop processor, and its Blu-ray drive, the Sony Vaio JS190J makes a case for itself as the new king of the all-in-ones. Its screen might be a bit smaller than some, but no other all-in-one, including Apple's iMac, can do as much, as fast, for the same price.... Acer Aspire One (XP Home, White) - The Acer Aspire One is easily the best of the current under-$400 Netbooks, but its meager allotment of memory and tiny battery limit its appeal.... HP Pavilion dv7-1025nr - We recommend the eye-catching, media-friendly HP Pavilion dv7-1025nr desktop replacement for students who want a laptop that doubles as an entertainment center. Gateway, however, has a slightly cheaper 17-inch model that's better suited to gamers.... Dell Inspiron 518 - Dell's Inspiron 518 is the latest in a long line of utilitarian, midrange Windows PCs. We wish Dell offered a bit more flexibility with its configuration, as well as a 64-bit Windows option, but for a straightforward PC, this is one of the more powerful systems for the dollar.... Asus Eee Box (black) - Despite a few useful features, the Asus Eee Box is a novelty at best. It can't come close to the same performance and robustness of even the most basic standard budget PC, and a low-end laptop can do everything it can do and more. The appeal of Asus' Eee PC does not carry over to the Eee Box.... HP Pavilion dv5-1002nr - The HP Pavilion dv5-1002nr's good looks, useful feature set, and current discount price may allow you to overlook its middling performance, but its dreadful battery life might be the deal breaker.... Velocity Micro Edge Z15 - Velocity Micro's Edge Z15 represents one of the best deal's we've seen this year in midrange gaming PCs. It has all the power necessary to play current games (even Crysis) at smooth frame rates, and its clean, spacious interior gives you plenty of upgrade room. We recommend this system to any PC gamer looking for a sub-$2,000 desktop.... Asus Eee PC 1000 (black) - The Asus Eee PC 1000's 10-inch screen walks a fine line between Netbook and regular laptop, but the higher price may drive away value-seeking consumers.... Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-S1001V - Double down on the memory and the 13-inch Toshiba Satellite U400-S1001X becomes a well-rounded laptop that will withstand the rigors of business travel.... Dell Inspiron Mini 9 - Dell's entry into the Netbook market means it's time to take these low-cost, low-power PCs seriously. The Inspiron Mini 9 is an excellent example of the form, if not radically different from the competition.... Lenovo IdeaPad S10 - 42312DU (Red) - Lenovo's "me, too!" entry in the Netbook sweepstakes, the IdeaPad S10, gets the price and features right, but falls behind on battery life.... Kodak ESP 5 All-in-One - multifunction (color) - The Kodak ESP5 is an attractive full color all-in-one printer, scanner, and copier, and casual photo enthusiasts will be happy with the watered-down editing software, but hard-core users should look elsewhere for a multifunction printer. The ESP5 is too expensive and suffers from too many mechanical deficiencies for us to give it our CNET stamp of approval.... Toshiba Satellite U405D-S2852 - Toshiba's thin-and-light Satellite U405 is a sleek and affordable alternative to the 13-inch MacBook, but this 13-inch laptop trails the pack in both performance and battery life.... HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr - At its current discounted price, we'd be willing to overlook the HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr's below-average performance if the battery life wasn't so bad.... Toshiba Satellite A305-S6858 - The Toshiba Satellite A305-S6858 is a very good mainstream machine, but we prefer one of its competitors.... Sony Vaio VGN-CR510E (pink) - Though it doesn't stand out in any one area, the Sony Vaio CR510E covers all the bases--decent performance, long battery life, good size, affordable price--in forming a good bet as a back-to-school laptop.... Dell Studio Desktop - Dell's new Studio Desktop introduces 64-bit Windows Vista to the Dell desktop line-up, but that's about the only thing this system does well. Its biggest, and deal-killing, fault is the overpriced and less than aggressive selection of configuration options.... Sony VAIO VGN-NR498E (white) - It lacks some standard mainstream laptop features, including an integrated Webcam and multimedia control buttons, but the Sony Vaio VGN-NR498 holds some appeal thanks to its decent performance, good battery life, and excellent keyboard. Still, there's a cheaper version of this Vaio laptop we like better.... Copyright © 2008, The Veggie Lady - Free Organic Gardening Advice. All Rights Reserved. |
